Meet at scout room at 8:45am to go on a hike at Short Springs. Bring lunch and
the ten essentials. If you don't know what the ten are, look in your scout
handbook or Google "BSA ten essentials". It's on meritbadge.org. Adults on the hike are Mr
Coulter and Ms Posaka. 931-409-0628. There is a sign up sheet for the hike in
the scout room. Sign up by this Tuesday December 13.
We will return to the scout room around 1 or 2pm. Then we will go to
Mr Credle's farm for compass work and cooking. Bring your hobo stove and
something you'd like to cook. You can get a pot or pan from the scout room. The
entrance to Mr Credle's farm is across the street from the Staggerwing museum
and down just a few feet. It is before the small bridge. Bear right at the
entrance. Dr Steinle can give you better directions 931-409-0951. Also, a map showing the location is available on the Google Calendar entry for this event. Our Google Calendar is on the lower left of this web page. You can be
picked up from here when it starts to get dark, about 4:30 or 5pm. Adults
at Mr Credle's are Dr Steinle and Ms Posanka.
January 13-15 Ski Trip, Maggie Valley NC
Leave from the scout room on Friday after school. Ski all day Saturday and
Sunday morning. Return Sunday night. Monday is a holiday. You do not have to
know how to ski. Lessons are included in the cost of your lift ticket+equipment
rental. There are a few beginners who will be on the bunny slope with you.
January is learn to ski month on the mountain. You will pay for ticket/rental
/lesson (about $200), your share of the cabin we rent, and your share if the
food. Bring warm ski clothes, sleeping bag, and some money for lunch on the way
home. Adults on the trip are Ms Posanka and (hopefully) Mrs. Wonder from Troop
402. You will have to sign up by Tuesday 1/3/2017. Family members
welcome too.
January 21-22 Winter Camporee
Meet at the scout room in the morning of 1/21 (time TBD) to travel to Franklin
Marion State Forest. There will be a short hike from the parking spot to the
camp site, so pack a backpack (you can borrow one from the troop, and a tent)
Enjoy rappelling, orienteering, tug of War, make your own slingshot, cooking
with the Troop, and camping. See attached for more details. There will be a
small fee for the event (usually around $10) and you will pay for your share of
the Troop's food. We will be making a lunch, dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Sign
up for this event by Tuesday 1/10/2017. Adults TBD. Seeking volunteers.
Troop Recharter continues for those that have not paid. Cost is $85 for a scout, $25 for adult volunteers and $12 for Boys Life Magazine for one year.
